Couples hardly need a reminder that developing and maintaining a loving relationship can be difficult at times. But it can be easier when one realizes there is actually a prerequisite for developing a mature and true loving relationship. That prerequisite, says Harville Hendrix, goes beyond loving a projection or a fantasy. Hendrix, a clinical pastoral counselor, is known internationally for his work with couples. Most love, he says — “I love you because you are so wonderful, I love you because you made love to me, I love you because it’s fun to walk with you in the park” — is really: “I love you because you are source of my comfort.”
