Relationships in America today have changed drastically in only a generation or two. Today we have massive expectations for the relationships we form. Having to deal with such a range of issues and having such heightened expectations has effects. For many people today, work is the place we look for purpose, meaning, fulfillment, passion. In the past perhaps only craftsmen and artists could look for such things in their work. But now many if not the majority of us find our identity in our work. Basically, something has to give.
