Relationships in America today have changed drastically in only a generation or two. Today we have massive expectations for the relationships we form. And that’s true for our personal relationships as well as for those we form in our professional life. Or so says Esther Perel in this insightful video in which she examines “The Power of Relational Intelligence.”

Perel notes that both our personal and professional relationships involve a litany of issues. Power. Gender. Rejection. Competition. Loyalty. Interdependence. Creativity. Partnerships.

Having to deal with such a range of issues and having such heightened expectations has effects. For many people today, work is the place we look for purpose, meaning, fulfillment, passion. In the past perhaps only craftsmen and artists could look for such things in their work. But now many if not the majority of us find our identity in our work. Basically, something has to give. Here, Perel delves deep into the foundational issues at play and looks for ways in which we can be guided toward well-being and success in our personal and professional lives.
